Fish Stories An Intro to Surf Fishing It was a dark, cold, rainy night, the traffic was terrible, and I remember thinking that we made a big mistake. The next morning I awoke to see fish jumping and immediately caught my first blue fish. It was green but I didn’t care. I went to the local bate store and got directions to a few wonderful places and had the best time of my life. A few days into the trip my sister's friend invited us to go fishing in Amagansett. This friend had a four-wheel-drive truck and permits to drive onto the beach. He drove us to a secluded area through the woods and onto the beach. This place was like heaven to a Missouri man. I had only been to the ocean once before this trip. We tried the first spot and had no luck. We were driving further up the beach and I noticed birds splashing into the water and asked our friend what was going on. I felt the truck drop in the sand and heard the engine speed up. Our guide said those birds are on fish! We rushed up to the birds jumped out of the truck and I found out why so many people love what we love– the thrill of surf fishing. I’ve returned to Long Island as many times as I can, which is never enough. I will never forget that first trip and always thank my gracious guide. By the way that guide's name was Kenny. Thanks, If you have any fish stories and photos you'd like to share, please email us at:
